The Board of Town Trustees met with the Board of Equalization last Monday. The board’s books were approved. Valuation of taxable property is as follows: personal property, $181,040; and real estate $316,750, making a total of $497,790.

Next Saturday, August 27, will be the 62nd birthday anniversary of the town of Hermann and there are a school of people still living here who have a recollection of the primitive ways which characterize the early settlers. Capt. Herman Bensing was the first baby born in Hermann, Mrs. Louise Pommer, now a resident of California, Missouri., Came to Hermann with her father, Mr.Reifentahl, and was the first female to set foot in the new settlement. Some of the old settlers still living are Peter Zorn , John Boehm and Christ Oelschlaeger.

C.M. Danuser is superintendent of Hermann high school for the term of 1923 -24 which began September 5.

The Standard Oil Company of Indiana announced Monday that it will reduce the price of gasoline 6.6 cents throughout its entire territory effective now.

The annual Hermann homecoming will be held this weekend. One attraction that the event will be the Tournament of Thrills, featuring Hollywood Auto Daredevils, a group of stuck drivers. Other activities include the parade, chicken dinner at the park, baseball game, Queen Contest and a dance.

St. George School will resume classes on Thursday, August 30, it was announced by Sister Patricia, principle.

A proposed discussion of the establishment of long-range tourism plans at a meeting at the Hermann school building last Wednesday night, sponsored by Historic Hermann, ballooned into a spirited discussion of the organizations guided tour policies.

While figures are not available, it is estimated the cost of conducting the recent election in the Hermann Area Hospital district, in which only 77 ballots were cast, will be over seven dollars per vote.

27 members of the Rhineland Royals 4-H club entered items in the recent Montgomery County Fair.

The 1973 Hermann High school football squad will be thinner in numbers but more experienced than last year’s aggregation.
