A day after dropping an 11-point decision to Montgomery County, the Hermann Varsity Bearcats rebounded to claim a decisive 3rd-Place victory in the South Callaway Invitational Tournament.
Head Coach Josh Vinyard’s Bearcats wasted no time Saturday afternoon in jumping on the host South Callaway Bulldogs in the 3rd-Place contest, building a 29-12 halftime lead into the 62-41 victory.
Center Trent Anderson poured in 31 points to lead all scorers in the contest. He connected on 13 field goals and went 5-for-6 at the free-throw line.
Chet Moeckli contributed 12 points and Rhet Scheidegger added 10.
Other Bearcats scoring included Holden Ash with 5 and Andrew Schannuth and Chase McKague with 2 each.
The win over South Callaway gives Hermann a season mark of 6-9.
A day earlier, the Bearcats saw a slim 1st-quarter lead slip away in what would be a 61-50 semi-final victory by the Montgomery County Wildcats.
In this contest, Hermann knocked down 5 3-pointers (3 by Chet Moeckli and 1 each by Rhet Scheidegger and Holden Ash).
But Montgomery County connected on a half-dozen more 2-point field goals to build on its 34-30 halftime advantage.
Leading the Bearcats in scoring was Moeckli with 17, followed by Trent Anderson with 14 and Scheidegger with 10.
Also scoring were Ash with 5 and Sam Holland and Chase McKague with 2 points each.
Hermann went 9-for-11 at the foul line; Anderson was 4-for-4 and Moeckli and Ash both 2-for-2.
The ‘Cats will have a repeat against the Wildcats Friday night when Montgomery County visits Hermann for the annual Courtwarming game.
Next week, the Bearcats will be on their home hardwood, hosting the Hermann Boys Invitational Tournament.
