Dollar Tree/Family Dollar
now open in Hermann
The new Dollar Tree/Family Dollar combo store opened for the first time Thursday morning in Hermann.
The new store, located at 513 Market St., will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Area store officials gathered with newly hired staff to hold a soft opening for the new business.
The regional directors said plans call for grand-opening activities on Saturday, Aug. 7, with specials that start the preceding two days. They said the Dollar Tree/Family Dollar concept embodies two familiar names under the roof of one store.
Tony Visconti, regional director-store operations, told the Advertiser-Courier staff have been working on preparations to open the store over the past 10 days, with some of those days lasting up to 10 hours. He said opening such combo stores typically takes from 15 to 20 people.
It's expected the new store will have a staff of 12 to 15 employees, according to Visconti, yet with hiring always taking place. The combo stores are usually sized from 10,000 to 15,000 square feet.
Visconti said the company is "super excited" to open in Hermann. "We're happy to be here."
"We're needed," he said, noting "we've got both customers covered." That refers to those who would prefer to shop Family Dollar's line of essential household items, along with others who are seeking "treasures" among the Dollar Tree offerings. Name-brand merchandise will be much in evidence throughout the aisles, and several shelves remain to be stocked with goods that are due to arrive soon.
Opening new stores and remodeling others has become a habit for Family Dollar and Dollar Tree, said Visconti, with an emphasis on growth during the present economy. New formats will be constantly laid out for customers, he added, and fresh produce is also part of the plans for the Hermann location.
Jamey Gaither is the store manager.
