The Hermann Area District Hospital (HADH) held its first “Wine and Jazz” fundraiser under the trees at Adam Puchta Winery last Saturday night. Those that attended the benefit, sipped on wine and wine slushies while listening to the STL Metro All Star Jazz Band. Shanna Greminger served as an emcee and Ruth Baumstark gave a short presentation about the Hospital Foundation.
She said it was developed for the sole purpose to operate exclusively for the benefit of the hospital. The Foundation money is invested and provided upon the request of the HADH Board, such as the purpose and installation of air conditioning units installed this past week.
Mrs. Baumstark alluded to the tough times rural hospitals are having all over the country, mentioning one hospital closing after serving the community for only five years.
“We are fortunate to have the Foundation in this small town,” she said. “We have hit our 52nd anniversary (HADH), so being a part of the hospital 40-plus years has been wonderful for me, my family and everyone in the area.”
Auxiliary President Anne Althauser said this fundraiser and their upcoming Sept. event featuring Butch Wax and the Hollywoods are fun ways for the Auxiliary and HADH to connect with the community. Through fundraising, the Auxiliary has purchased high-tech equipment for the hospital and recently helped out with an air conditioning project. They also put money toward scholarships for students entering the medical field.
“It’s on as ‘as needed’ basis that we are able to help the hospital,” she said.
