AWOM announces

grants program

Art Works on Main (AWOM), a nonprofit art center that serves all Gasconade County communities and rural areas, is broadening the scope of its Anna Mae Rademacher Memorial Grants-in-Aid Program that aids students pursuing careers as artists.

Since 2017, the organization has awarded scholarships to seniors graduating from Hermann and Owensville. The awards honor the vision of AWOM's founder, Anna Mae Rademacher, who believed in the benefit of arts to students and the communities.

The new Artists Grants-in-Aid program represents an expansion of the scholarship program by opening eligibility to more applicants. It is expected that funds from the program will be used by recipients for their continued development as artists. The funds can be used to cover costs of courses, workshops, or lessons. The assistance can also be used to acquire or upgrade equipment or supplies.

Applicants must be between 15 and 20 years old and must reside in Gasconade County. The applicant does not have to be enrolled in a Gasconade County School when applying. Age eligibility is determined by the age of the applicant on the date the application is due. AWOM will not waive age or residency requirements. The applications must be accompanied by digital examples of original work.

This year's area of program focus of a different medium within the arts is visual arts, which includes painting, drawing, sketching, illustration, and photography. All of this year's applicants must submit a completed application accompanying three examples of their work in original and digital formats. Prospective applicants should verify the area of focus each year at the time the call for applications is announced.

Next year's focus will be music, including performance, composition, scoring, lyrics, and conducting. The program focus for 2023 will be on literature, including essays, poems, short stories, and plays. The focus for 2024 will be on any type of sculpture, and 2025's focus will be on dance, including performance and choreography.

The applications are due by Wednesday, June 30. The grant recipient will be awarded on Saturday, July 31, during the Gasconade County Fair in Owensville.
