Christmas will be here before you know it—so once again, we are gearing-up for the Community Christmas Program and asking for your help.
The Community Christmas Program provides Christmas presents for the children from around 50 local families. “It is heartbreaking to imagine what it would be like to have no gifts or toys at Christmas. The Community Christmas Program was started to make sure as many needy children as possible receive at least a few gifts. Sadly, there are many families who just cannot afford to purchase toys, clothes, or books at Christmas, so it is our hope to make their holiday special through this gift of giving.” said Dawn Grosse, Hermann’s school-based social worker and founder and co-director of the program.
The Hermann community has been very supportive of the program in past years. This year, there are two ways to contribute—one is to “adopt” an entire family and the other is to give toys or a cash donation to purchase gifts for the children. Examples of the types of gifts needed are baby dolls and baby doll clothes, trucks, cars, art sets, make-up for teenagers, hairbrushes and hair ties, baby toys, books, games, bikes, and tricycles. Toy donations can be picked-up by our volunteers or you can drop-off your donation at the distribution center. Please contact Bartow Molloy at 314.378.3387 to arrange for pick-up or drop-off of donations.
The family “adoption” is where an individual or organization purchases all the gifts for the children in one family. The target would be to give each child at least 4 or 5 gifts. Just decide your budget or how many children you wish to support and call Bartow. Bartow will provide you choices to match you with the family who will best meet your donation goals.
“It’s a great way for a family to have a charitable project and work together shopping for just the right gifts for the children they adopt. The last few years many local companies have also adopted families as fun “team building” events within their organizations” said Bartow Molloy, co-director of program.
Also, for the eighth year, the Santa Rampage will be held to raise funds for the program. The Rampage will take place on Saturday, December 10th. “Last year, the Santa Rampage raised $4,000 for the Community Christmas program,” said Dawn Grosse. “It made a lot of difference in helping our kids.”
All support is greatly appreciated! 100% of the donations received by the Community Christmas Program are used to purchase items for the children and all administrative activities are donated by volunteers. Please contact Bartow Molloy if you wish to adopt a family, donate gifts, or volunteer to Community Christmas this holiday season.
