Conservation reports deer totals

The Missouri Department of Conservation has reported totals from the just-completed November portion of the state's firearms deer season.

Cpl. Jason Eikermann, who is the agent for Gasconade County, relayed the preliminary totals to the Advertiser-Courier. Hunters in Gasconade County took 960 antlered bucks, 218 button bucks, and 750 does, for a total of 1.928 harvested deer.

The department also gave the following area county totals: Franklin, 1,737 antlered bucks; 348 button bucks; and 1,324 does, for a total of 3,409 deer; Osage, 876 antlered bucks, 251 button bucks, and 1,011 does, with a total of 2,138 deer; and Montgomery, 889 antlered bucks,199 button bucks, and 757 does, for a total of 1,845 deer.

Eikermann said this 11-day season was not as stellar as in past years, with adverse conditions playing a role in the totals.

"There were no hunting-reported incidents reported in Gasconade County," he said.  "The weather played a factor on deer harvest in the county."
