The Telephone Comes to Gasconade County

Is Topic of Speaker’s Series program at Swiss

The history of telephone service in Gasconade County is the topic of the Gasconade County Historical Society’s first 2020 Speaker Series program.

The program is set for Sunday, March 1, at 2 p.m. at Swiss Evangelical Reformed Church on Highway 19 in Swiss.

Glenn Miller of Owensville, an avid researcher of Gasconade County history, will be the presenter. Miller is a volunteer at the GCHS Museum in Owensville and was recently elected to the Society’s board of directors. His talk will cover decades of old phone systems from the time of Alexander Graham Bell’s invention to more recent decades and will describe the coming of the telephone to Gasconade County.

The title of Miller’s program is “The Telephone in Gasconade County from the Beginning Until the Dial System.”

Admission to the program is $10. Students and children are admitted free.

All GCHS programs are open to the public. Proceeds from the Speaker Series programs help support the mission of the Gasconade County Historical Society to preserve and communicate the history of the county.
