County SWCD sponsors poster contest

The Gasconade County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is sponsoring its 2021 Annual Poster Contest. The theme this year is: Healthy Forests=Healthy Communities.

We use trees every day in more ways that you think. In fact, without trees and other green plants we wouldn't be alive. Some of the benefits from trees are: recreation, clean air, healthy soil, clean water, healthy people, food and other bi-products, and healthy communities. Trees are a valuable natural resource - absorbing carbon dioxide, removing up to 100 gallons of water out of the soil and releasing it into the air in a single day. We are looking for bright ideas, in pictures, on how important trees are to our community. We provide a PowerPoint of information, as well as a link to an educator packet, to assist with learning.

The contest is open to every student in Gasconade County in the second- through eighth-grades. The contest materials and poster board have been delivered to the schools here in the county; however, if your student is virtual learning or being home-schooled and would like to participate in this contest, we request that you contact the office at (573) 437-3478, ext. 3, to receive all of the information and the poster board.

The due date for contest entries is March 12.
