Residents donate stimulus checks

Officials with one Hermann charitable organization say local charitable donations are increasing as people start receiving their stimulus checks as part of the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, & Economic Security) Act.

“People are being so generous during this crisis by donating part or all of their stimulus checks to local charities," said Dustin Kallmeyer, president of the Community Foundation of the Hermann Area. "The CFHA COVID-19 Relief Fund has received several donations from local citizens that tell us they are doing all right financially and want to donate their check to those in need who are affected by the coronavirus. We have been fortunate enough to award two grants from this fund so far – one to supply hygiene kits to school children and another to help River Bluff Industries (RBI) pay their utility bills while the workshop is closed and not receiving their normal revenue stream."

River Bluff Industries extended its appreciation for gesture.

“I am so grateful to the CFHA for helping us with the bills while we wait to get our operation up and running again, said Muriel Brison, RBI's director. "The CFHA has done so much for the Hermann community – we are lucky to have them. This grant has come at a time when we really needed it to help us through until we can resume full operations.”

In addition to the CFHA COVID-19 Relief Fund, the Hermann Community Food Pantry’s donations have increased.

“Many of our donations are from folks giving us their stimulus checks” said Bartow Molloy, the food pantry's president. “We are so fortunate to live in a community where our citizens think about how they can help. The food pantry is currently closed to ensure the safety of our patrons and volunteers and, instead we are mailing out food coupons to patrons.”

One woman donated part of her check to the CFHA COVID-19 Relief Fund and part to the food pantry.

“She just wanted to make a difference and she and her husband didn’t need the money to help them through this crisis," Molloy said.

Those who would like to donate to the CFHA COVID-19 Relief Fund can mail a check to: CFHA, P.O. Box 62, Hermann, MO 65041. Make the check payable to CFHA and please note in the memo field “COVID-19 Fund.”
