Wyatt’s Fund

A check from Wyatt’s Fund was presented by Sam Frink of Hermann today to the Gasconade County R-1 School District for the District’s special needs program and projects. Sam and his wife, Missy established Wyatt’s Fund with the Community Foundation of the Hermann Area in January, 2012 to provide financial assistance for services for children in the school district with autism spectrum and/or sensory integration disorders.

The Fund is named for Sam’s and Missy’s grandson, Wyatt, who is autistic. Wyatt and his family live in Texas where Wyatt attends a school with ample support for special needs programs in place. Missy, who taught social studies and geography at Hermann Middle School, knew the needs of the local schools so the Frinks established Wyatt’s Fund to benefit special service programs locally in the Gasconade County R-1 School District.

Gasconade County R-1 Supt. Dr. Scott Smith, who serves as an ex-officio member of the Community Foundation of the Hermann Area, Inc. Board of Directors expressed gratitude on behalf of the district schools for the generous gift from Wyatt’s Fund. Smith stated that the funding will go toward such things as flexible seating options for students, sensory items for the classrooms and sensory room, as well as for professional development opportunities for staff. A list of needs was compiled by Missy Ash, GCSD Special Services Director with input gathered from teachers and district autism consultants.

Wyatt’s Fund began with a $10,000 donation from the Frinks. At Missy’s death in 2012, memorials were placed into the fund. During the presentation of the check to the school district, Frink said when he and Missy established the fund, they hoped more donations would follow, to help address the continual need for special services funding in the school district.

Area residents may send donations to CFHA-Wyatt’s Fund, P.O. Box 62, Hermann, MO 65041 or online at https://www.cfozarks.org/affiliates/hermann. Wyatt’s Fund is a component fund of the Community Foundation of the Hermann Area, Inc., an affiliate of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.
