BOA denies request for property rezoning

BOA denies request

for property rezoning

The Hermann Board of Aldermen on Monday night unanimously rejected requests to rezone property on East First Street.

The request, which had been unanimously forwarded by the Hermann Planning & Zoning Commission, was for property that consisted of Lots 35, 36, and 37 on East First Street. That property is currently zoned "A-1" Agricultural, and the request was for a rezoning to "C-1" general commercial. The applicant, who was not present at the BOA meeting, also requested that Lots 69, 71, and 73 on East Second Street, now zoned "A-1", be rezoned to "R-1" single-family residential. The properties at issue are located 106 Gellert St.

A public hearing was held on the requests, at which only one member of the public spoke. Sarah Hackmann said she did not favor the requests, which she said could not sustain the conditions needed for a guest house.

Alderman David Faerber said there are numerous problems with the request, including traffic and the need for street repairs. He also said people in the area don't want the change. Alderman Jim Schirmer concurred with those views. Alderman Derek LeRoy also voted against the request. Alderman Susan Lenger was not present for the meeting.

Later in the meeting, the board denied a request for a caterer's permit submitted by Chillax Tap & Company for a food truck event at 219 E. First St. for Oct. 9 and 16. Further details will be reported in next week's Advertiser-Courier.
