City ends monthly

camping fee schedule

The city of Hermann is wrapping up its previous system of asking campground users for monthly fees.

By unanimous votes Monday night, the Hermann Board of Aldermen eliminated the monthly camping fee option that had been place for those who had chosen to use the city campground sites on that basis. The votes for first and second readings -- and eventual approval of the amended ordinance -- came upon recommendations from the Park Board.

"They're not going to rent it for the month any more," said Aldermen David Faerber in the only brief discussion held prior to the votes.

City Administrator Patricia Heaney said the changes will eliminate red tape for all concerned.

"Only a couple people a year do that," Heaney said of the monthly camping rentals. "They'll still do weekly."

Under the previous system, campers wanting to rent by the month had to pay $750 for an electric, water and sewer hookup for their campsites for that amount of time. The city park campground has 51 sites with full utility hookups.
