Health department announces positive virus cases at county business

The following report was provided by the Gasconade County Health Department on Oct. 14:


On Oct. 6, the Gasconade County Health Department received notification of a positive case of COVID-19 involving a local business employee at Swiss Meat & Sausage Company.


Over the subsequent couple of days after this initial positive case, we were notified of four additional employees from Swiss Meat that confirmed positive for the COVID-19 virus. The management of Swiss Meat, along with the Gasconade County Health Department, out of an abundance of caution, would like to notify the public that anyone that may have visited or conducted business at Swiss Meat & Sausage Company on any of the days from October 1, 2020 through October 6, 2020 to please monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID- 19. We are working with Swiss Meat to ensure they are following Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (MO DHSS) and Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines regarding isolation/quarantine.


Symptoms of COVID-19 may include any one or combination of the following: fever, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, headaches, sore throat, and new loss of taste or smell. If you have any concerns or any of these symptoms, please contact your personal health provider for instructions. The Gasconade County Health Department is currently working with the company to identify any individual(s) that may have come in close contact (less than 6 ft for more than 15 minutes) with positive individuals to monitor themselves for symptoms and assist in the containment of the virus.


As per management instructions, Swiss Meat & Sausage Company has conducted a deep cleaning and disinfection of its facility upon notification of the virus. As of Tuesday, Oct 6th the company is temporarily open for Curbside Services Only. Any customer requesting to pick up their meat orders are asked to call in advance and the product will be brought out and loaded into their vehicle. They have also voluntarily ceased slaughter operations for this week. Swiss Meat & Sausage Company would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and can assure you they are working closely with the county health department to notify the public of any known close contacts as defined by the Center for Disease Control and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.


It is important that every member of the community continue to follow the CDC basic hygiene preventative measures. These measures include avoiding contact with people who are sick, covering coughs and sneezes, proper handwashing, utilizing facemasks as needed, sanitizing frequently used surfaces, and staying home when sick.


The Gasconade County Health Department has taken and will continue to take precautions to keep our community safe and will continue to diligently monitor the COVID-19 situation as it evolves by following the CDC guidelines to protect public health and limit the spread of this virus. We encourage anyone that suspects you have COVID-19 or have been in contact with someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19 to call your healthcare provider before seeking care unless it is a life-threatening emergency.
