Gasconade County officials are investigating the merits of whether or not to pursue a new phone system for the courthouse.

County Clerk Lesa Lietzow told the Gasconade County Commission on Thursday that two meetings have already been held with prospective telephone system providers. Both of the sessions, she said, were held with courthouse staff on Thursday, Sept. 23. One session was held with Callabyte, while the other was with STL Communications, based in Chesterfield.

Lietzow said many courthouse personnel desire a cloud option of phone service, thus providing an Internet base and off-site data center maintained by the company. She said a third company has expressed interest in Gasconade County's phones, and a meeting will be set up with that firm.

The possibility of linking the phone system with the sheriff's station at Swiss was also mentioned, along with pairing the network with cellphones.

The commissioners all agreed that consideration of a new courthouse phone system can be delayed until 2022, once budget talks commence. The county is currently contracted with CenturyLink for telephone service until next April.

"We've got time this year," said Lietzow about discussions for a new phone program.

Also at Thursday's session, the commission learned that the Missouri Department of Transportation will be in Hermann on Nov. 18 to discuss local and area transportation needs. Hermann and Owensville officials are being invited to participate in the talks
