It was a great weekend to be from Hermann last week. Graduation is over and done with. Some are sad, some happy but I know it was an incredible class that walked across the stage. Good luck to you all.
Maifest went over well I hear. I understand that those who worked to pull this year’s event did a fine job. That’s the rumor and let’s just keep it that way. Love a good rumor!
I was not here for Maifest. This is the first I have missed in many years but someone from the newspaper had to go to Jefferson City to watch the spectacular Hermann Track Team!
I love Maifest but I am really glad I got to watch our high school athletes do their stuff. This is a solid team. They support each other, unite as a team, even when the majority of the events are individual events, they’ve got each other’s back. Heide Hingst needs to be awarded the “golden pompom” as she runs around the tract to cheer runners on. This is also a young team. As Brianna Thomas said, the run was awesome “especially with three freshmen.” Brianna will be a senior next year and the three other girls will be sophomores. I can’t wait to see them preform next year!
The 4x200 race was won by one junior and 3 sophomores so they will be dynamite next year too. And what about that Gleeson kid? The one whose brother Casey, was in such a horrible car accident. Big brother is doing well enough after the long hospital stay to go to Jeff City to watch his baby brother win second in the 3200 meter race. Second in the State! Wow.
One place I regretfully did not get to go and watch an athlete make Hermann proud in Springfield, where Thomas Henson won 5th in the State for golf. In the entire state!!! Thomas’ family has deep roots in Hermann and I’m sure they’re so proud. In fact, won’t we all be proud when we watch Thomas on the PGA tournament on TV? Thomas, may I have your autograph before you get too famous?
I am raising my coffee cup high to all you graduates, athletes, coaches, teachers and manifest committee members. Life wouldn’t be so good without you in our town.
