The Masonic pic-nic proved to be a most enjoyable affair. Much credit is due the ladies for more than magnificent supper prepared by them. After supper the tables were removed and a social hop was enjoyed for a few hours.

The Webster Jackson escape from the Hermann jail, as detailed elsewhere in a communication to the Globe–Democrat, is one of those aggravating incidents of criminal negligence that tends to shake faith in the official integrity. Information gained in addition to the facts therein recited, go a long way to confirm the facts therein stated, and to give color to the suspicion of collusion on the part of the deputy sheriff, at Jackson's escape. The statement that the deputy sheriff did not know he was missing when he handed him his breakfast, and that he only discovered it at 1 o'clock when he took him his dinner, is as transparent as a mosquito bar.
