The Crusade Against Cancer Annual Golf Tournament was held Sept. 14, with 36 teams and 99 golfers participating, at the Loutre Shore Country Club.
The day included the Hermann VFW providing a ColorGuard as part of the opening ceremony, as well as a “Flyover” by Bart Engemann. More than $11,000 was raised.
Food was provided for the participants and the Hermann Lions cooked and prepared the evening meal. Several prizes were awarded to the winners of a multitude of events, including longest drive, longest putt, and closest to the pin -- as well as teams with the lowest scores in three divisions. A Silent Auction was conducted as a part of the annual fundraiser.
Monies received are all utilized locally for area residents who are suffering from cancer. Funds are used for transportation, financial assistance and uninsured expenses encountered as a result of cancer.
Crusade Against Cancer was created as a way to locally assist cancer patents and their families. The necessary decisions are made locally and can assist cancer patients without having to wait for a decision by a national organization. The Crusade Against Cancer is a member of the Community Foundation of the Hermann Area (CFHA). CFHA is an affiliate of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks. All donations made to Crusade Against Cancer are tax deductible based upon this affiliation.
