Hermann and its surrounding area are once again prominently featured on a list of nominations for this year's "Discover the Best of Missouri Life Awards."

Missouri Life Magazine, a statewide publication based in Boonville, began taking votes for the awards at 7:01 a.m. today, Wednesday, on its website of www.missourilife.com. The second-year competition's main categories encompass food, culture, "imbibe", destinations, shopping, lore and legends, outdoors, homes, and small towns, with various subcategories. The magazine states that its results from the polling help readers choose from among recommendations of places to visit in Missouri in the year ahead. More than 35,000 votes were cast in 2019. Hermann won as the state's top historic small town last year, and was runner-up in dining. For the 2020 contest, Hermann captured yet another nomination as Missouri's Best Historic Small Town, and is also in the field for Friendliest Small Town and Best Small Town Shopping.

Ricky's Chocolate Box has been nominated as Best Chocolatier. Battocletti Bake Shoppe is in the running for Best Bakery and also for Best Donuts. Alpenhorn Gasthaus is among the nominees for Best Destination Restaurant, as well as Most Romantic Restaurant. The Corner Restaurant-Bar-Catering is up for Best Fried Chicken and Best Buffet. Espresso Laine is a nominee for Best Local Coffee Shop.

Local photographer Mike Langille was nominated for Best Visual Artist. Pinckney Bend Distillery is a nominee for Best Tap Room. Hermanhoff, Adam Puchta, and Stone Hill are among contenders for Best Norton. Stone Hill and Adam Puchta are competing with seven other wineries in the state for Best Wine. Tin Mill Brewing Company will be seeking the honor of Best Brewery. Wood Hat is one of the choices for Best Distillery, as is Black Shire, Pinckney Bend, and Fernweh. Doxie Slush is one of the entrants for Best Cocktail Bar and Most Unusual Business in a Small Town, and Stone Hill and Adam Puchta will be considered for Best White Wine.

The Best Stretch of Highway has North Highway 94 as one of the choices. The Schiller House and Hermann Hill received nominations for Best Bed and Breakfast. Grand Bluffs Conservation Area is an entrant for Best Scenic Spot.

Eberlin Boats & Motors is nominated for Best Boat Dealer. Hermann Historic District  is one of the nominees for Best Shopping District, and White House Hotel is a choice for Notable Historic Hotel. Alpenhorn Gasthaus is Best-Kept Secret nominee for Best Historic Home.

Concert Hall and Barrel Tavern and Fernweh both earned a nomination for Best Small Town Dining. Berger Jam Hut is one of the nominees for Best-Kept Secret for Best Small Town Art Gallery.
