The “Gift of Jazz” - A tribute to black history month

The Showboat Community Theatre announces a fundraiser that is a special tribute to Black History month concert titled "The Gift of Jazz," featuring the popular jazz band, Friends of Aaron. The well-known 10-piece jazz band will perform a night of music, history, and cultural discussion in celebration of Hermann's first observation of Black History Month. The performance will take place on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m.

Aaron Bounds, a native of Hermann and assistant professor of music at East Central College in Union, will take the stage at the Showboat Community Theatre with his bandmates as the master of ceremony. Listeners will hear some of jazz's most significant African American composers highlighted throughout the night, including Buddy Bolden, Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, King Oliver, amongst others.

"It is with extreme pride that our jazz group has been asked to perform and pay tribute to some of the most celebrated black jazz artists of the century,” says Bounds, "The birth of jazz ran with the river and Hermann is the perfect backdrop for this tribute."
