Theater company begins playwriting contest

The Half Act Theatre Company, a budding youth theater company founded by drama majors Anna Borgerding and Brenna Jones, has announced its first ever Half Draft Playwriting Competition.

This contest is for 6-8th grade students in the Hermann/St. Louis region. Participants are given a theme and are asked to write a 10-12 page play. This year’s theme is Bedtime Stories.

The chosen winner will have the opportunity to workshop their script with members of the Half Act Advisory Board, then cast, direct, and produce their show with local actors.

Half Act’s co-founder and playwright, Brenna Jones, said, “We are so excited to see how kids adapt our theme and bring Half Draft to life," said Brenna Jones, Half Act's co-founder and playwright. "This is an amazing opportunity for them to participate in the creation of children’s literature and see their work on a real stage.”
