The Hermann Area Youth Deer Hunt committee marked its fifth year this past weekend. The event was extremely successful with 102 deer scored and weighed and over 200 area youth deer hunters participated in the weekend. The event weekend kicked off on Saturday October 31st at 9 am. Each hunter who harvested a deer was able to bring their harvest to the Rod n Gun club and have it scored if it was a buck or weighed if it was a doe. Each of these hunters received an ALPS cinch bag with goodies and was entered into the Harvested Deer drawing for a chance to win a .243. If this happened to be the hunters first deer they were also entered into the First Deer drawing for a chance to win a .708.
Each hunter was also entered into the attendance prize drawing bucket for attending the event weekend whether they were successful harvesting a deer or not.
Refreshments were provided all weekend long. Calvin's distributing provided the soda trailer; Purdy's at Stony Hill made up the chili; Wurst Haus donated the brats; Oscar Meyer donated hot dogs; Wal-Mart in Owensville donated donuts; and the area grocery stores donated all the fixins needed for these great eats.
This event is 100% community sponsored with all prizes and donations being used for the current year's event. Thanks to amazing sponsors within our area the event committee was able to provide more than 160 kids with attendance prizes. 6 firearms were awarded; 5 safes; 2 custom made lifts; a Meat your Maker grinder; a Real Tree Bike; and many many more amazing prizes were awarded.
