check student covid cases
The R-1 school district and Gasconade County Health Department began working together Monday to identify COVID-19 cases that found in students at both the elementary and high schools.
At midafternoon Monday, Dr. Geoff Neill told the Advertiser-Courier he was finalizing a letter to be sent home to parents describing the circumstances with virus cases at both school buildings. He did not put a number on the amount of cases, but did not character the discovery as an outbreak.
"The cases we've had...we've gone through the health department," Neill said.
Likewise, health department Administrator Greg Lara said he and his staff were already busy going through case investigations related to students at the schools, establishing both the need for quarantines and going through individuals' close contacts.
"We're still getting calls, working on it right now," Lara said of the process. "They (school district) are providing us with the information."
Lara also said numbers were still being assembled, refraining from calling the cases an outbreak. Classes for the 2021-'22 year in the Hermann district began last Monday, Aug. 23.
