Alice Marie Benson, 89, of Morrison passed away peacefully on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Stonebridge Nursing Home in Hermann, Missouri. She was born on January 11, 1932 in Washington Park, Illinois, a daughter of the late Alan and Maude (Hiller) Kasson. Alice was united in marriage to Bernel Benson, who preceded her in death on July 5, 2013.
After graduating the 8th grade from Lansdown School in Illinois, Alice worked several jobs. She worked at Hullings Restaurant in downtown St. Louis during the end of World War II. She then went on to work at The Form Cafeteria, Switzer’s Licorice, Kestlers’ Grocery Store and a dress factory before marrying her childhood crush, Bernel in 1951. Alice had her first daughter, Deborah, in 1953. In 1956 they moved to Missouri where she had her second daughter, Shellaine, that same year. In 1959, they moved to E.A. Bohl’s Farm where Alice took care of 3,000 laying hens and picked up eggs to pay the rent. In 1962, Alice had her third daughter, Christine. In 1968, she began a job at the Florsheim Shoe Factory and move to Morrison in 1971 where she worked many years at the factory and also helped Bernel on the farm raising hogs, cattle, sheep and dogs. She stayed in her home until she was no longer able in 2014. Alice was a loving mom, grandma and great-grandma. She will be missed everyday of our lives.
Alice is survived by her three daughters: Deborah Polacek Hans (Robert) of Rhineland, Shellaine Seifert (Jerry) of Morrison and Christine Cramer (Rick) of Morrison; brother: Charles Stowers of Collinsville, Illinois; six grandchildren: Angela Polacek of Lake St. Louis, Michelle Ellis (Scott Hopkins) of Hermann, Teressa Beaulieu (Eric) of Linn, Rebecca Edwards (Martin) of Ashland, Timothy Cramer (Katlyn) of Linn and Katlyn Deeken (Brian) of Morrison and 13 great-grandchildren: Brittany Arnsmeyer, Brandon Arnsmeyer, Madison Ellis, Logan Ellis, Allison Klebba, Harlee Klebba, Bailey Beaulieu, Avery Beaulieu, Christian Edwards, Findely Edwards, Mackenzie Cramer, Parker Deeken and Lincoln Deeken. She was preceded in death by nine siblings and great-granddaughter: Faith Beaulieu.
Friends were received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2021 at St. James United Church of Christ in Morrison. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at St. James United Church of Christ with Rev. Barb Zastrow officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Good Hope Cemetery.
