Darlene S. (Smith ) Hansen, 83

Darlene S. (Smith ) Hansen, 83, passed on July 16, 2021. She passed peacefully at home under hospice care. She was  born in Webster Groves, Missouri to Orval C.(Pete) and Lavern Smith. Darlene is survived by her husband Ronald E. Hansen, Dauphin Island, Alabama. They were married on May 26, 1957 in Batesville Mississippi.

Also surviving are a sister, Susie(Smith) Gowan of Houston Texas; two sons; Ron(Lisa) Hansen of Dauphin Island, and Todd Hansen of Olympia, Washington. Grandchildren: Alan Fitzpatrick(Jenelle) of La Vista, Nebraska; James Hansen, Dauphin Island;Jeni Fitzpatrick,Rolla, Missouri; Rob Henson(Meg Goecker) of Dauphin Island. Great grandchildren: Heather and Ian Fitzpatrick of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; Sage Barba, Lavista, Nebraska; Amelia and Meegan Hansen, Dauphin Island.

Darlene above all else was a nurturing woman, she raised her two boys, fed track teams, neighborhood kids, and race track insiders regularly. In her later life she returned to college at Webster University and received her Masters in Teaching Art degree. She went on to teach at the Hermann Elementary and St. George school in Hermann, Missouri. She tutored many children, rode motorcycles, loved to fish and completed incredible works of art. She worked in several mediums: oil painting, watercolors, pastels, charcoals, pencil, and pottery. After retiring to Dauphin Island she continued her creation of art and enriched this wonderful community with her kind and gentle ways. She was a dedicated staffer are at the Dauphin Island Welcome Center for 20 years, painted murals at the Little Red Schoolhouse, Darlene also greeted thousands of visitors to the Island while also tending the lending library. Her smile and presence will be greatly missed. Heaven has gained a wonderful guardian angel.

Darlene donated her body to USA Research Hospital in the hopes of helping others. Her wishes were for no services. A private family memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers Darlene had several favorite charities:
