Paul O. Tobias, 74, of Hermann, MO, passed away October 12th at home after a year long battle with cancer. He was born and lived in Van Wert, Ohio until Chrysler Corp transferred him to Missouri in 1989. He was employed by Chrysler for 30 years and retired in 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlyle Tobias, Lowanda Schulte (nee Conley) and stepfather Matthew Schulte.Paul enlisted in the Army in 1964 and served as a Medic in Germany and Vietnam. He continued serving once home, 1st in the Army National Guard and later transferring to the Air National Guard. He attended the NCO Academy and after several deployments and 10+ years of full time service, He attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (E8). He retired from the military in 2006. Paul then decided to become an over the road trucker. He enjoyed his new career for 14 years.
Paul was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, a Lifetime member of the VFW, Past member of American Legion, FOE and LOM Clubs in Ohio.
He is survived by his wife of 38 yrs., Teresa (nee Walton). 3 daughters; Heather Maley-Vogel (Dave), Bobbi Baker and Lana Tobias (Mandy). 3 brothers; Robert Tobias (Linda), Steve Tobias and Jerry Landrum. A sister, Jean Jenkins and stepbrother Glen Amstutz. Grandchildren: Gavin and Colten Maley; Toby, Ana and Eva Contreras; Samantha Dodson. Plus many beloved nieces and nephews, and lifelong best friend Jerry Roberts and family.
A memorial service will be held at the 1st Baptist Church, Market St., Hermann, MO on Nov. 7th. Visitation with the family at 3 pm and service to follow at 4 pm.
Paul will always be remembered as a good man with a big heart, as a hard worker and for the ever present mug of coffee He will be missed.
