After serving in the military, Sam attended the Rochester Institute of Technology and then moved west to St. Louis, MO where he attended Washington University. Throughout his life, he was an avid reader of history, enjoyed swimming, dancing, fishing, camping, traveling, and cherished time spent with family and friends. In Sam’s later years, his beloved dog, Bingo, was his constant companion.

Sam is survived by his children, two daughters, Rebecca (nee: Sheldon) Howard of Jamestown, Missouri; Wyvonnia (nee: Sheldon) Neeley of Salt Lake City, Utah; and a son, Frank Sheldon of Southwest Florida.
