Hermann Baseball Takes Down Van Farr in Home Opener
The Hermann Bearcats cruised past Van Farr Monday night, 14-2 in seven innings of play. Both teams had a nice attendance of fans as temperatures would be in the 50s. Due to wet weather conditions, the venue had to be changed to Hermann, but Van Farr would still be the home team for the contest.
In the first inning, it was a quiet contest with both teams not scoring a run. In the top of the second inning, the Bearcats started to connect as the team drove in four runs, adding five more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Trenton Lampkin would have his first start on the mound for the Bearcats this season. He would keep the first three innings of play quiet as he tallied five strikeouts and gave up only one run.
Hermann and Van Farr would both split a run in the 4th and 5th inning of play. This would make it a 10-2 contest, closing out the 5th. The Bearcats brought in a variety of players to warm them up in preparation for upcoming games this week. Carter Leavy would take things over in the fifth inning as he faced three batters, collecting his first strikeout of the season. Van Farr would bring in a new pitcher in the top of the sixth inning to have a quick 1-2-3 inning, collecting two strikeouts and leaving one runner stranded on the base path.
Going into the last inning of play, Hermann wasn’t done yet on the offensive attack. The Bearcats would add three more runs to the board. Lane Kohlbusch closed things out in the sixth and seventh, allowing only one hit, as he found the zone early on. He connected three strikeouts to make it a 14-2 victory for Hermann.
The story of the night was at the plate as the bats came alive. Reese Rehmert and Rane Rehmert would share two hits apiece as Reese would drive in two runs and Rane tallied one. Parker Anderson went 2-3 at the plate, driving in three runs and collecting a double on the night. Charlie Tyree would be another player going 2-3 at the plate driving in a run. John Borzillo drove in two runs off his one hit of the night. Eric Williams hit a gap shot out to right field as he drove in a Bearcat run. Daeden Hopkins, Gavin Hackmann, and Trace Erfling, tallied one RBI apiece. Other players who reached base with a hit include Isacc Leibach, Lane Kohlbusch, Jordan Heying, and Nolan Ogroski.
Hermann (3-1) remains at home on Tuesday's V/JV contest against Duchesne (5-2) at 4:30 p.m. The Bearcats will have Wednesday off as they will prepare to be back on the road Thursday as they travel to Silex for a varsity contest at 5 p.m.
