The 2020 Hermann High School baseball team finally took the field Thursday evening...sort of. The majority of the members of the 2020 squad were at South Callaway for a Varsity/JV doubleheader. With the exception of a few players missing who had other obligations plus a few new faces that will be joining the team next Spring. MSHSAA has relaxed its Summer rules due to the COVID 19 situation to allow 2020 graduates as well as incoming Freshmen to participate in Summer activities. So there will be a few High School games played before the Summer ends and Fall practices begin. Thursday night saw the Bearcats swing the bats well in a 12-7 Varsity win over the Bulldogs. Many of Hermann’s players have already played a substantial amount of baseball this Summer in other leagues but this was their first outing as a HS team. Trent Anderson and Dayton Ruediger shared time on the mound to get the win.
The JV team was not as fortunate, as the Bulldogs came out on top in the night’s second contest. The Bearcats are scheduled for a Varsity contest on Sunday 7/19 at Owensville City Park against the Dutchmen, 5 PM start time. They will also travel to Russellville the week of 7/20 and play in a tournament. The Hermann High School Bearcats are still also trying to add a home game, date and time TBD.
