Katy Menke ran a strong race at the state competition.

The Hermann varsity Ladycats finished a very strong 2020 campaign with a resounding third-place victory last Thursday, Nov. 5, over the Springfield Catholic Fighting Irish, in a state-level Class 3 game held in Cape Girardeau.

The girls won the third-place title with a three sets to none victory (25-11, 25-18, 25-12). Hannah Grosse had eight points, while Holly Heldt and Macie Witthaus each contributed seven. Gracie Winkelmann had 16 kills in 26 attempts, while Heldt had nine kills in 18 attempts.

Earlier, the Maryville Lady Spoofhounds defeated Hermann in the semifinals, three sets to one (25-15, 17-25, 22-25, 22-25). Chelsey Moeckli had nine points, while Cydney Moeckli had six points. Winkelmann recorded 26 kills.

The Ladycats finished with a 25-7-3 season. A celebratory parade for the third-place finishers was held Sunday afternoon in downtown Hermann.
