This past weekend, Hermann, Missouri, officially launched its annual Oktoberfest celebration, kicking off the first of four weekends of German heritage, music, and food. From Friday, October 3rd, through Sunday, October 5th, the historic downtown was alive with visitors arriving from all over to enjoy the beautiful weekend weather Keg Tapped to Start a Rousing Weekend The festivities formally commenced on Friday evening with the traditional Tapping of the Keg at the Tin Mill Brewery on Friday with Mayor Bruce Cox getting the weekend festivities underway.

Hermann, known for its deep German roots, historic charm, and world-class legacy wineries mixed with modern businesses, is taking a significant step to ensure its future is as vibrant as its past. It was as if visitors to the Hermann Farm Civil War reenactment this past weekend were transported back in time and treated to more than just the spectacle of cannon smoke and cavalry charges; they got a detailed, personal look at the tactical maneuvers that brought a piece of local history to life. Following a staged skirmish, several members of the 8th Missouri Cavalry reenactment unit—who traveled from Springfield—explained the action and the historical backdrop.

From a 'Godwink' to a Lifeline: The Story Behind Touch of Hope

For Julie McCollum, it all started with a collection of purses she didn't use and an idea she calls a “Godwink.” Today, that simple moment of inspiration has blossomed into Touch of Hope, a nonprofit organization that has provided over 22,000 bags of essential hygiene products to victims of crisis across Missouri and beyond. The organization’s origin is tied directly to another local charity event.
