For over 150 years, the local newspaper was the bedrock of Hermann’s news life. Its pages, delivered to doorsteps each morning, with the earliest publications published in the German language, were the sole source for everything from school board meeting minutes to Friday night football scores.

As a former “city boy” being introduced to county fairs 20 years ago, I was not accustomed to the smells of livestock and mud from tractor pulls and unpaved event spaces that locals don’t even notice. I have since come to appreciate the sensory experience, especially when one of my city friends tags along at the fair.

With all the events taking place throughout the summer and people being on vacation or just staying at home in the air conditioning, some details slip by us, but there is one detail I wanted to comment on. I would like to congratulate City Administrator Tricia Heaney on her perfect city audit, and not only that but also her poise and professionalism that she brings to every Board of Alderman meeting.
